چکیده
ObjectiveTo determine the intraoperative and early postoperative opioid requirement after ultrasound-guided sciatic and/or femoral nerve block or epidural anaesthesia in dogs undergoing tibial plateau levelling osteotomy (TPLO).Study designProspective, masked, pilot, randomized, clinical trial.AnimalsA total of 40 client-owned TPLO.MethodsEach dog was randomly assigned to group SF (combined block), S (sciatic F (femoral block) E (epidural anaesthesia). A 0.3 mL kg–1 ropivacaine 0.5% administered each space. Intraoperatively, fentanyl (2 μg kg–1) intravenously when heart rate, mean arterial pressure respiratory rate increased by >30% compared with baseline values. Postoperatively, a visual analogue scale (VAS) modified German version French pain (4AVet) were used assess every 30 minutes for 150 again once morning surgery. Methadone (0.1 mg if VAS ≥ 4 cm [maximal value 10 cm; median (interquartile range)] composite score ≥5 15; range)]. Significance defined as p ≤ 0.05.ResultsGroups required less doses groups (p = 0.031). No had failure methadone. reduced methadone found all other up recovery 0.041).Conclusions relevanceCombined lead cumulative consumption perioperative opioids than single blockade. Sciatic alone might be insufficient control nociception TPLO.

Complications of tibial plateau levelling osteotomy in dogs.
The tibial plateau levelling osteotomy (TPLO) is one of the most common surgical procedures used to treat cranial cruciate ligament disease in dogs. Complications occurring during or after TPLO can range in severity from swelling and bruising to fracture and osteomyelitis. Ten to 34% of TPLO surgical procedures are reported to experience a complication and approximately two to four percent requ...
متن کاملA comparison of outcomes following tibial plateau levelling osteotomy and cranial tibial wedge osteotomy procedures.
The objective of this study was to determine whether clinical outcomes were superior and complication rates were lower in dogs that had had a cranial cruciate ligament rupture treated by tibial plateau levelling osteotomy (TPLO), compared to those dogs that had been treated using the original cranial tibial wedge osteotomy (CTWO) procedure. Thirty-seven client-owned dogs with cranial cruciate l...
متن کاملUse of a perineural coiled catheter at the sciatic nerve in dogs after tibial plateau levelling osteotomy – preliminary observations
The analgesic effects of peripheral nerve blocks can be prolonged with the placement of perineural catheters allowing repeated injections of local anaesthetics in humans. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the clinical suitability of a perineural coiled catheter (PCC) at the sciatic nerve and to evaluate pain during the early post-operative period in dogs after tibial plateau levelli...
متن کاملA retrospective study of tibial plateau translation following tibial plateau levelling osteotomy stabilisation using three different plate types.
OBJECTIVE To retrospectively evaluate mediolateral translation of the proximal tibial segment (tibial plateau) after tibial plateau levelling osteotomy (TPLO), stabilised with three types of plate. METHOD Pre- and postoperative radiographs of 79 dogs that had TPLO surgery using three different types of plates were reviewed. Two plate types incorporated non-locking screws: Slocum (22 cases) an...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate a cohort of dogs undergoing tibial plateau levelling osteotomy (TPLO) implant removal to determine key clinical features, prevalence, and indications for implant removal. METHODS Medical records of dogs undergoing TPLO implant removal at a private referral practice (Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center) between 2004-2008 were reviewed. Patient signalment, implant type, pres...
